Septums are used to seal the needle puncture area when performing Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) tests.
Use of a septum prevents air from entering the inside of the package, which helps ensure an accurate sample of the MAP gas.
There are two models of septums: Traditional black, which requires slight pressure to bond the adhesive's seal. Once adhered, this septum is securely in place and it's not recommended to remove or reuse these on another package. The black gold style feature an instant adhesion, even in moist environments, but they can also be easily removed used again for multiple tests.
